At Wild Kakwa Outfitters, our rifle elk hunts take place in the heart of Alberta’s prime elk country during the peak of the rut. This is when bulls are fired up, highly vocal, and responsive to calling—creating fast-paced, close encounters in true wilderness settings. We are consistently targeting mature bulls in the 300” class, with the opportunity to occasionally kill elk pushing into the 350” range. These are hard-earned, trophy-caliber animals that live in remote backcountry habitat where success comes down to reading sign, wind, and elk behavior in real time.
A key part of our success comes from being right in the elk’s world. Our remote backcountry wall tent camps are set in close proximity to the freshest sign and the traditional areas where bull elk naturally concentrate to rut year after year. This allows us to eliminate long travel times and stay fully immersed in the hunt, maximizing every opportunity the rut provides.
This is a true calling-based hunt. We locate and pressure bulls through aggressive calling techniques, then work them using wind, terrain, and strategic movement—often swinging into position and calling them into close range for a shot opportunity. When it all comes together, it’s raw, intense, and unforgettable.
Access is part of the adventure. We utilize jet boats to navigate remote river systems and reach secluded valleys, adding a unique and exciting element to the hunt.
This is a high-energy backcountry rut hunt—designed for hunters who want close encounters with world-class bulls in one of the most dynamic elk hunting environments in North America.
